Air Duct Cleaning FAQs

What is the difference between vent cleaning and air duct cleaning?
There are some companies that characterize themselves as air duct cleaners, yet the services they provide are limited to "vent cleaning." Rather than use compressed air and air agitators to clean the return and supply duct lines, in conjunction with cleaning inside the air vents, these companies will simply remove the grills/vents and clean inside the vents with a basic vacuum. This is an improper way to clean ducts and is not mandated by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association. Without targeting the dirt/dust/debris that has built up on the walls of the return and supply duct lines with compressed air, the duct system is not truly clean.
Here’s the problem with those $19 specials:
What typically happens in those scenarios is the company offers this unbelievable low price to get in the door. Once inside, they almost immediately find other problems — black mold is a common scare tactic used by these salesmen — or they try to up sell the homeowner on new systems, air purifiers. If they realize they are not going to make any money on you, they are out of there - thus called blow and go companies. If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is!! Don't be scammed by these companies.
Should Fogging or Sanitizing chemical biocides be applied inside of air ducts?
Air duct cleaning service providers may tell you that they need to apply a chemical biocide to the inside of your ducts to kill bacteria (germs), and fungi (mold) and prevent future biological growth. Little research has been conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of most biocides and ozone when used inside ducts. Some people may react negatively to the biocide, deodorizer, or ozone, causing adverse health reactions. In addition the added moisture sprayed into ducts could stimulate mold growth. Because here in Florida we have flex duct work not sheet metal which is what these chemicals are rated for.
How Long does it take to do a duct cleaning?
It takes 3-6 hours to do a complete duct cleaning on an average size house with 10-20 vents.

We use a HEPA-AIRE Portable Power Vacuums (PPV's) which make it possible for us to perform source removal duct cleaning. These HEPA-filtered systems have the power needed to place large sections of an air duct network under negative pressure enabling us to pull dislodged contaminants out of the duct system and capture them. We go down each duct line with a high pressured air wand and dislodge and remove dust and other contaminants. Compared to clumsy van or truck-mounted units, PPV's offer exceptional flexibility and portability needed to access and clean residential air handling systems. Plus, true HEPA filters with 99.97%-rated efficiency or greater ensure that only “hospital grade” pure air is released back into you home.
